Arpa Canyon

Arpa Canyon is located in Armenia, in the Vayots Dzor region, not far from Jermuk. It starts from the Kechut reservoir and continues to the Armenia-Iran Interstate Highway. The gorge is very beautiful and suitable for hiking. The name comes from the Arpa River, which originates northwest of the Artsakh Plateau and flows into the Araks River, which flows into the borders of Nakhichevan and Turkey. Length 128 km.

Upstream are the Jermuk sanatorium and the waterfall of the same name. Water is used for irrigation and electricity. There are also water stations bardzrunoy, Azatek and Arpi. In 1981, the Arpa-Sevan water supply system was put into operation, at the head of which the Kechutsky reservoir was built. Hydroelectric power stations Jermuk, Azatek, Yeghegnadzor and Areni were built on Arpe. 1979-83. On the river, a reservoir with a capacity of about 180 million was built.
