Araks River is one of the largest rivers of the Armenian highlands. Araks originates from many cold springs coming from the Byuraknian mountains. Its waters here have a temperature of no more than 3-3.5°. It is the only river of the highlands that flows through the entire territory of the highlands and, joining the Kur, flows into the Caspian Sea. Araks flows through the territories of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran. Its length is 1072 kilometers, of which 200 kilometers are in the territory of Armenia. The width of the river reaches 30-130 meters in the Mezhrun plain (6-7 meters in the canyons near Meghrun). The depth is 3-4.5 meters.
