Arpa River is located in Armenia and originates from the Zangezur and Vardenis springs. In the upper stream the river is slow, but not yet reaching the Jermuk sanatorium, becoming glacial and, breaking through the Vardenis Mountains, plunges into a deep forest gorge. Downstream of Jermuk, Arpa flows through the creeks and continues its course slowly to the village of Areni. In the lower stream, Arpa is divided into many large and small canyons and is used for irrigating fields and gardens during the summer months. Arrives in Araks in Nakhichevan. The length of the river is 128 km. The Kechut Reservoir was built at the upper reaches of the Arpa River, from where the Arpa-Sevan water tunnel begins.
