Martakert

Martakert Province is one of 8 Provinces of the Artsakh Republic. The area of the district is 1,795 km2, the population is 18,963 people (2005). The center is the city of Martakert. The region is bordered by the Shahumyan region in the north, in the west of Karavachar, in the south, in the Askeran region, in the southeast of Aghdam, in the east and in the Barda regions. It has 43 communities and 46 settlements, of which 5 are temporarily under the control of the enemy. The region of Martakert  occupies the entire section of the Khachen and Kolatak river basins, and most of the provinces of Jarberd and Khachen and Gulistan - the historic Artsakh in the world.

The climate of Martakert

Climate - dry subtropics. The average annual temperature is 10.7 ° C, the average air temperature in January is 0-1 ° C and 21.4 ° C in July. At low altitudes, the absolute minimum temperature drops to -16 ° C, on middle mountain, -20 ° C, on a hill, -23 ° C. The absolute maximum temperature in low and mountainous areas is 40 ° C, in mountains up to 35 ° C. The average annual rainfall is 410-480 mm.
