Yeghegis Canyon

Yeghegis Canyon it is located in Yeghegnadzor region of Vayots Dzor Province. It is about 18 km away from Yeghegnadzor city, 135 km from Yerevan. It is spread on the left bank of the Yeghegis River, at an altitude of 1640 m above sea level. The gorge is especially beautiful from Smbataberd. There is a Jewish cemetery near the village of Yeghegis. Medieval Yeghegis was one of the richest communities in Armenia. In the 13th and 14th centuries it was the residence of the Orbelian dynasty.
