Spitak Fortress - Aghjapala medieval castle
The Spitak (White) Fortress is located between Martuni and Aygut villages of Gegharkunik region of the Republic of Armenia, about 6 km north-west of Martuni village, 3 km north-east of Aygut village. The castle is located on the southern slopes of the Miapor Mountains, on the right bank of the Getik River, 1 km south-west of the village called Aghjaghala (where the remains of buildings and churches, khachkars) are preserved. It is accessible by road from Aygut-Martuni villages to the plateau, then by walking to the top of the castle. The castle is lined with cracked fragments of local, whitish limestone and limestone. The interior of the monument is completely filled with piles of rubble and has no visible interior layout. In the context of the monument, a large settlement of the same name has been preserved, 13th-14th centuries. with the ruins of the church and several cemeteries, the date of the monuments of which dates back to the 10th-14th centuries.
