Arpi Lake located in Shirak Province, Amasia and Ashotsk regions, on the eastern slopes of the Yegnakhag mountain range and the southwestern slopes of the Javakhk mountain range. Arpi Lake National Park covers an area of about 25,000 hectares. The national park was created to preserve the unique biodiversity of the Javakhk-Shirak plateau. Here is the largest colony of the Armenian crane in the world and the only habitat of the curled pelican in Armenia. There are about 670 types of plants in the area (orchid, lily, iris, tulip, lily), 25 of which are included in the RA Red Book. 22 of them are endemic species. There are 30 species of mammals in the park (European otter, chaytakis). Cultivated landscapes of the Arpi Lake catchment are mainly composed of grain and rice fields.
