Kazbek Mount

Mount Kazbek is one of the most famous and beautiful peaks of the Caucasus. Kazbek, with a height of 5054 meters, is the second highest peak in Georgia and the seventh highest in the Caucasus Range. The mountain is located on the border of Georgia and Russia. In many sources you will see a different height of the mountain, 5033 or 5047 meters. In 2019, the height of the peak was revised using the latest technology, and a height of 5054 meters was set, which has since been the official height of Mount Kazbek. History and mythology

Mount Kazbek has an interesting mythological connection with ancient Greek myths. In ancient times, it was believed that Prometheus was chained to this mountain. Legend has it that after Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to people, he was punished and chained to a rock. Some researchers associate Kazbek with this myth, calling it "Prometheus Mountain". The very name "Kazbek" comes from the Persian language, where "kazbek" means "peak mountain". In other sources, the name "Mkinvari" (meaning "high mountain") is also found, which is also used in Georgia.

Geography

Mount Kazbek is a part of a large mountain range called the Great Caucasus. Its shape is a typical cone-shaped volcano, although the mountain itself is no longer active. There are several glaciers in the vicinity of the mountain, as well as the famous Jimara Mountain, which is an important peak for climbers.

Ecology and natural features

Mount Kazbek is located in a unique natural area where alpine meadows and eternal glaciers meet. Here you can see a rich flora and fauna, including rare species of animals such as the Caucasian tur, brown bear and snow leopard.
