Climbing Biblical Mount Ararat & Western Armenia

Day 1. Yerevan – Ani – Bayazet

In the evening the group will move from Yerevan to Bavra checkpoint, that is the Armenian-Georgian border. Then, we will cross Georgian-Turkish border through Akhalkhalaq checkpoint. The first stop is planned to be near the shore of the lake Tsovak-Hyusiso (Childir), the next one near Ani, the town of thousand and one churches. In the evening we will reach to Bayazet city, dinner will be included, overnight at the Hotel.

Day 2. The first camp of Mount Ararat

Through mountaineering transportation, we will reach to the foot of Ararat mountain (2200m) from Bayazet City. Here the ascent will start. Heavy things, belongings and clothes will be transferred by horses. We will reach to the first camp (3366 m) within 5-6 hours. There you will have time to relax, adapt, and have dinner. Overnight will be in the tents.

Day 3. The second camp of Mount Ararat

Breakfast, ascent to the 2nd camp (4150m), Overnight will be in the tents.

Day 4. Climbing Top of Mount Ararat

Wake up at 12:00 am, breakfast, afterwards at 01:00 am climbing to the top of Ararat Mountain for about 6 hours, the temperature will be around 0-20. In case of good weather conditions, the participants will have an opportunity to see some fields of Turkey, Iran, Nakhichevan and Armenia, including Mount Aragats and Geghama mountains. After, celebration of the conquering the peak. Descent to the second camp. You will have time to relax for about 1-2 hours, then we will have descent to the first camp. Afterward we will reach to the city Bayazet. There you will have a dinner and overnight will be at the hotel.

Day 5. Bayazet – Van

After having breakfast, the group will head to Van, on the way to Van the group will have an opportunity to see Berkri’s waterfall and Akhtamar Cathedral of Holy Cross, which is considered the 1st church of seven architectural masterpieces. After swimming and eating Vana tarekh the group will go to Tushpa (Van-castle 9th century). The participants will arrive from Van to Dogu Bayazet and the overnight will be at the hotel.

Day 6. Bayazet – Kars – Yerevan

Breakfast, visit to Daroinq castle, Artsap Armenian village, on the way to Armenia Kars castle and Arakelots monastery, Yeghishe Charents house ruins.

Depending on weather conditions, it is possible to have an additional overnight at the mountain, that will not include any additional expenses. 

Before departure, there will be organized preperational and adaptation ascents to the Arayi, Azhdahak and Aragats mountains. Please note that the prices of the ascents are not included in the Ararat Schedule. 

Participants must have sleeping bag, backpack, mountain boots, warm clothes (for mountains), warm jacket, hats (both for summer and winter), comfortable gloves, Sweater, sunscreen cream, headlamp, walking sticks, thermal underwear, mask, sunglasses, gaiters.

The participation will cost 850$ (paid in equivalent amount of AMD,) 

The cost includes:
– Transportation
– Accompaniment service 2-3 (Armenian and Kurdish)

– Tents, mattresses, crampons
– All sightseeing’s entrance fees
– Transportation of clothes and belongings (with horses)

The cost of program is accounted for 15 participants. In case of changes in the number of particpants a change may occur in the cost.
